I caught up with former St. Bonaventure coach Jon Mack at halftime and asked him what he thinks about this year’s crop of Seraphs.

‘They’re a really strong team and I’m proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish so far,’ he said. ‘It’s great to come back and see how they’ve progressed.’

Of course, Mack, who coached the Seraphs for 17 years, can only dream of what it would be like to coach a player like Darrell Scott.

‘Obviously, he’s the kind of player a coach would always like to have on his team,’ Mack said.

Mack decided it was ‘time to move on’ last year and is now the coach at Ventura College. His team is 1-2 heading into Saturday’s game against Moorpark College.

Game update: Malcolm Jones scored on a three-yard run with 5:25 left to play for Oaks Christian, but Ryan Medina blocked the extra-point attempt to make the score 41-33 St. Bonny. With 1:42 left, St. Bonny is on the Lions’ 14.
