Thanks to her victory in the girls’ sweepstakes race at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday, Mission Prep’s Jordan Hasay was named the USA Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Hasay, pictured left as a freshman two years ago, posted the fourth-fastest time ever for a girls’ race on the 2.9-mile Mt. SAC course, stopping the clocks at 16 minutes, 42 seconds. But this really didn’t come a shock to anyone since the junior distance runner had won the race the previous two years as well.
On Saturday, I blogged that the Saugus’ girls set a combined course record of 89:34 to dominate the girls’ sweepstakes race. And I found some videos documenting their big day.
The first is a post-race interview with the Saugus runners after their record-setting run and the second is an interview with Saugus Coach Rene Paragas.
(A special thanks to Moses Galindo, Rich Gonzalez and Doug Speck over at DyeStatCal.com for the videos.)
