For the third consecutive day, the Los Angeles Unified School District has suspended outdoor practice activities for all athletic teams and P.E. classes because of poor air quality due to fires in the area. The decision was made at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday by the district’s Office of Evironmental Health and Safety.
Athletic teams are allowed to practice indoors, and that’s what some football teams have been doing. But the absence of outdoor practices is jeopardizing games scheduled for Friday.
It would appear that if practices are allowed on Thursday, schools will have the choice of playing games on Friday or Saturday. If practices are suspended again on Thursday, then schools could have a choice of playing on Saturday or Monday.
‘We believe the way the weather is at this time, we can play on Friday against Granada Hills,’ Birmingham Athletic Director Rick Prizant said Wednesday morning.
