Jasmine Dixon of Long Beach Poly, considered the top girls’ basketball prospect in the Southland, has committed to Rutgers.
The 6-foot-1 forward helped the Jackrabbits finish 36-1 last season, winning their second consecutive state and Southern Section championships.
Dixon averaged 14.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.7 steals and was a Parade magazine third-team pick. She was also selected to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team and was named its junior player of the year.
Poly eclipsed the Southern California season record of 35 victories set by La Puente Bishop Amat in 2006. The state record for victories in a season is 38, set in 1993 by Atherton Sacred Heart Prep.
The Jackrabbits’ only loss was to the consensus No. 1 team in the country, Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill.
