Garden Grove Santiago has to be feeling pretty good about itself this week, and for good reason. It has clinched a share of the league title for the first time since 1978.

The Cavaliers scored a 35-8 victory over Los Amigos on Saturday. The victory made them 7-2 overall, 4-0 in the Garden Grove League. Danny Rujchanarong had three touchdown runs as the Cavs ensured they would be in the playoffs for the first time since 1998.

The only team that can move in on an outright title is Garden Grove (5-4, 3-1), which next plays Bolsa Grande (3-6, 1-3) on Friday. Santiago will have it much tougher because it plays last year’s league champion, Rancho Alamitos (5-4, 2-2), on Thursday at Garden Grove High.

Even if everything doesn’t go exactly right for Santiago on Thursday, it’s still been a pretty terrific season under Coach Aaron Shahrestani.
