There remains a possibility of three-way ties for first place in the Marine and Northern leagues, which lived up to their projections as the most competitive leagues in the City this season.

Banning (8-1, 3-1) takes on Carson (7-2, 4-0) and hard charging tailback Jack Sula, pictured left, Thursday night at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach. If the Pilots win and Narbonne (8-1, 3-1) defeats Gardena (0-9,0-4) on Friday, there is the triangular lockup. Banning’s league loss was to Narbonne, and Narbonne’s league loss was to Carson.

In the Northern League, Eagle Rock (9-0, 4-0) puts its 21-game winning streak on the line against visiting Franklin (7-2, 3-1) Friday afternoon. Marshall (7-2, 3-1), which beat Franklin and lost to Eagle Rock, will look to beat host Belmont (6-3, 1-3) and hope for the best. That game will be played Friday night at Birmingham.
