What happened to Newport Harbor the last couple of days?

On Friday, the football team upset Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in the first round of the Pac-5 playoffs. Very few people saw that one coming, and that victory alone would have most Sailors fans pretty pumped up.

Saturday morning, the girls’ cross-country team won the Division II championship, and the boys’ team finished second.

Saturday night, the water polo team was dominant in winning the Division I title.

All that’s left now is the girls’ volleyball team, which was beaten in the semifinals by Mira Costa but will find out today/Sunday if it receives a berth into the state tournament.

‘It’s been a great weekend,’ said Eric Tweit, Newport Harbor’s athletic director. ‘The weekend will be complete if the girls make state.’

I’m not sure that I’d bet against it.
