This might not be the biggest or most high-profile division in Southern California, but that doesn’t mean there are no good teams in this often overlooked playoff bracket. In fact, I can name several quality programs, and there’s two, in particular, that continue to separate themselves from the pack. Check out how the big boys of small-school football faired on Friday.

Unstoppable: I’ve been hyping Cierre Wood for quite sometime now, so much in fact, our prep sports guru at The Times, Eric Sondheimer, wrote a column about the highly-touted junior. And it was good timing, considering Wood scored five touchdowns for second-seeded Santa Clara in a 41-14 victory over Village Christian. This kid can flat-out play. Like my 13-year old daughter, Charli, would say, ‘He’s a baller.’

Fan favorite: I don’t make many trips out to the Lancaster area for my pigskin information, but from what I gather, Paraclete is the real deal this season. The top-seeded Spirits have developed quite a loyal following, too, according to the Antelope Valley Press. Can’t imagine the desert-dwelling faithful were disappointed with Friday’s 52-7 victory over Sierra Vista. The pandemonium, with regards to Paraclete, appears contagious.
