Palisades reclaimed its status as the top City girls’ volleyball team Saturday after a four-year absence.

The top-seeded Dolphins (25-8) received 15 kills and two blocks from senior outside hitter Alex Lunder and six more kills from senior middle blocker Teal Johnson to roll past second-seeded Venice, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21, in the Championship Division final match at Occidental College.

“Alex may have played a perfect game tonight,” Palisades Coach Chris Forrest said. “I think she made only one error. And I might have to be corrected on that -- I’ll have to check the stat sheets.”

It was the first championship for Palisades since 2003 but the program’s 24th title since 1973.

Venice (18-4-1), making its third trip to the finals in the past seven years, had nine kills by sophomore Katie McCabe.

In earlier title matches at Occidental, Verdugo Hills defeated Cleveland, 25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 25-15, to win the Invitational Division championship and Elizabeth rallied past top-seeded Northridge, 25-21, 21-25, 26-28, 25-13, 15-10, to win the Small Schools championship.
