Drean Rucker must be looking down on Canyon Springs and his former coach, Doug DuBois.

Rucker, once an All-American linebacker for Canyon Springs, was part of the same USC recruiting class that included Reggie Bush, Sedrick Ellis and LenDale White. He was less than a day from leaving for preseason practice when he drowned in the surf off Huntington Beach in July of 2003.

On Friday night, the Cougars will be appearing in their first first section final since 1994, traveling to top-seeded Colony for the Central Division championship game.

DuBois, who coached Rucker at Canyon Springs, will be coaching in the first championship game for himself and Citrus Hill, which is scheduled to travel Saturday night to San Jacinto for the East Valley Division final.

Before their game against UCLA on Saturday, the Trojans honored Drucker as part of Senior Day. It sure would be a nice gesture if if he was remembered before those championship games as well.
