No team has been more impressive this season than Riverside North. Under its first-year coach, Bethel Trice, the Huskies have already beaten San Diego Section power La Jolla Country Day, 52-51, and Troy, 65-56, on the strength of a 28-7 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. When was the last time Troy got schooled like that in the final eight minutes?

LJCD had already beaten San Clemente, 62-30, in the finals of the LJCD tournament. I ranked San Clementeat No. 3 in The Times preseason ranking, and Troy at No. 16.

So far, North, which I didn’t rank, is 6-0, and led by Amanda Frost, who has averaged 16.3 points, and Gloria Thomas, who has averaged 12.2. Even though North was untested in the Temecula Valley tournament, Frost scored 18 against LJCD and 23 against Troy.

I’m guessing North will be in my top 25 when it gets updated after the Christmas tournaments.
