For those who think the only good basketball tournaments are here, down south, think again. There’s a pretty good showcase going on way up North this week, the Mission Prep Christmas Classic, which opens first round play in San Luis Obispo tonight and runs through Saturday.

When it comes to talent, there’s no shortage of it in this one. Several Southern California powerhouses intend to make the trip. Demar DeRozan and Compton will be there, so will Jrue Holiday and Campbell Hall. Suppose I should mention that Jeff Withey and Horizon are making the trek from San Diego.

Even Storm Warren will be in attendance, along with his teammates from Richwood (La.). The tournament, in its ninth year, is a must-see event, annually one of the better venues for competitive basketball on the West Coast. If you’re up in that neck of the woods and enjoy hoops, I suggest stopping bye the Mission Prep gym.
