After last week’s not-so-great outing in the San Fernando Valley Invitational, Lancaster got off to a good start Wednesday at the Chaminade tournament with a 61-31 victory over Granada Hills Kennedy.

It was definitely the kind of performance the Eagles needed to bury their unfashionable 12th-place finish on the Crespi hardwood, but let’s face it -- you can’t brag about beating Kennedy. That’s why Lancaster needs to beat a surging Moorpark squad this afternoon if it wants to get the attention of Golden League title favorites Knight and Highland.

Bringing down the Musketeers won’t be easy, though. Moorpark defeated Granada Hills on Wednesday, the same team that beat Lancaster in the San Fernando Valley Invitational on Friday. They also have a guy named David Buchanan, who scored a game-high 22 points on Wednesday.

Lancaster has to get some consistent point production from leading scorer Teilden McKissic, and it wouldn’t hurt if his supporting cast of Alex Bullock, Javion Gardner and three-point threat Matt Webb swooshed the basket more than a few times, either.

Come on Eagles, it’s time to prove you’re more than a Golden League afterthought.
