For the first time in its history, one of the host teams of the Larry Doyle Orange County Championships won the title. Edison, which co-hosts with Marina, scored a 57-47 victory over No. 12 Mira Costa in the title game on Saturday. Priscila Cergol led the Chargers (11-2) with 18 points.

Edison wasn’t included in The Times’ preseason rankings, but barring a silly loss next week to Marina will almost certainly find itself among the Southland’s elite girls’ basketball teams when the first regular season ranking is released on July 9.

The third-place game wasn’t much until the end. No. 22 Foothill beat Norco, 60-58, after blowing almost all of a 17-point halftime and 13-point fourth-quarter leads. Christina Marinacci led Foothill with 30 points.
