With all the political primary hoopla going on, I decided that yesterday was ‘Decision Wednesday’ in boys’ soccer-- Santa Margarita was playing Servite and Loyola was playing St. Francis. Some clarity in terms of rankings was certain to come of these matches, right?

Well, ‘Decision Wednesday’ didn’t decide too much. But it did tell us to not overlook St. Francis.

Santa Margarita
and Servite played to a 1-1 draw in a game that saw three red cards. I called Santa Margarita Coach Curt Bauer after the game and he told me that there were a lot of stoppages, throw-ins and that the flow of the game was very slow. ‘It was playoff-like intensity,’ he said.

The Eagles, last year’s Southern Section Division I co-champions, and the Friars will meet again Jan. 25 at Servite High. Mark it on your calender, I’m sure no love will be lost between the two.

St. Francis
got over the Loyola hump by beating its Mission League rival for the first time since 2001. The Golden Knights defeated the Division I co-champions, 2-0, with two second-half goals by forward Nick Posthuma.

Posthuma has scored nine goals in the last three games -- all league games that St. Francis has won by a combined score of 14-0. The Daily News’ Lindsay Czarnecki, being the prophet that she is, knew Posthuma was going to have a big game and did a Q&A with the senior that ran on Monday. Posthuma reveals that he will be attending Cal State Fullerton, my alma mater (and Editor Bob’s). It’s a great choice, in my opinion.

Another marquee game on Wednesday was Harvard-Westlake vs. Crespi, a battle of two unbeaten Mission League teams that remained that way thanks to a 0-0 draw. Crespi hosts St. Francis on Friday.
