Chatsworth girls’ basketball Coach Michelle Chevalier was looking for ways to motivate the Chancellors (13-4, 2-0) for Wednesday’s West Valley League road game against Granada Hills. Then Granada Hills (9-3, 2-0) provided all the motivation needed by knocking off Taft on Friday.

‘It’s a bigger game now that they beat Taft,’ Chevalier said.

‘I don’t underestimate anybody and we knew Granada Hills would be in the mix. But I think, along with myself, that quite a few people were surprised that they beat Taft. So it’s all the more reason to keep our guard up.’

Chevalier said her team’s play has smoothed out the last couple of weeks after early season tournament losses to Cajon (twice), Bishop Montgomery and Lynwood.

The Brandon sisters -- Gennifer, a junior who averages 14.1 points and 11.6 rebounds, and Kimberly, a senior who averages 13.6 points and 8.7 rebounds -- are more than carrying their weight. But Chevalier says she has expanded her player rotation to 10 ‘because everyone is contributing.’
