For all you stat hounds out there, here’s how Saugus’ 57-38 Foothill League boys’ basketball victory over visiting Canyon played out:

Receiver-turned-dunker Mario Wright finished with a team-high 13 points and Saugus teammate Joey Dietrich had 11, even though his defensive play was the highlight of the show. Michael Cassio finished with 10 points and I was impressed by his dribblin’ skills. Big-man Cameron Diorio wasn’t at the top of the score sheet (for once), but he managed to help keep Canyon’s big-man under control.

That big man, 6-foot-9 center Cody Anderson, led Canyon with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He was also royally bummed about losing in the Saugus gym for a second straight year.

Finally, I’ll wrap things up with this interview with Dietrich and a shoutout to Daily News reporter Ivan Orozco, who’s starting a new job in the San Diego area on Monday. Best of luck, Ivan!
