Despite winning back-to-back Southern Section football championships, Riverside North Coach Lou Randall has been let go, according to this report.
‘I think our football program is about more than wins and losses,’’ Principal Dale Kinnear told the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
Sounds as if somebody hasn’t been strict enough when it comes to off-the-field issues, especially when one of Randall’s assistant coaches told the newspaper, ‘I don’t think Randall wanted to yell at these kids too much, having them ruin their confidence in where they end up quitting.’’
A lot of kids would never admit it, but some wouldn’t mind getting yelled at once in a while. Most high school athletes don’t have the maturity to discipline themselves, so that’s where adults must step in. If you give kids an inch these days, they’ll take 100 yards.
Believe me, I played at El Toro for now-Mission Viejo Coach Bob Johnson and he makes players too scared to make mistakes. Yet, the Diablos don’t seem to have trouble attracting numbers, winning games and getting players qualified for college.
