He has been a fixture on Orange County pool decks for more than a decade, but Don Stoll has decided to scale back.

Stoll has resigned as girls’ water polo coach at El Toro, where he has commanded both boys’ and girls’ programs for the last 12 seasons.

Most recently, El Toro girls were 17-13 and finished second to Foothill in the Sea View League. The Chargers lost in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I water polo playoffs to top-seeded Newport Harbor, 7-6.

Stoll was the only girls’ coach El Toro has had, and he compiled a 212-133 record. Stoll told Dan Albano that he didn’t think he was giving the girls’ program everything he had because of his focus on the boys’ program and that the girls needed a full-time coach. The girls’ program took a double-hit when his assistant, Jeff Grosse, also resigned, though he will remain the girls’ swimming coach.
