The Mater Dei boys’ basketball team inched closer to Dominguez in the third quarter of the Southern Section Division I-AA final at the Honda Center. Andy Brown’s three-pointer cut the Monarchs’ deficit to five points, 44-39, with 15 seconds remaining in the quarter and that’s where they stand heading into the fourth.

The guy with the shakiest hands that quarter was the scoreboard operator, who gave a bucket to Dominguez that belonged to Mater Dei, causing the Monarch fans to hop out of their seats in protest. Then the Dominguez fans weren’t too happy because they thought they were shorted a point on a three-point basket.

Every point will likely count in this one.

Jordan Hamilton has 17 points for the Dons. Brown has 13 to lead Mater Dei.
