Tony Freeland took advantage of Kyle Perry’s absence in the second quarter and the 6-foot-6 Fremont junior forward has 19 points at the half and the Pathfinders lead host Riverside King, 39-36, in the Southern California Regional Division I first-round game.

Freeland averages 15 points.

The highlight of the quarter was Freeland’s ally-oop dunk off a pass from Ryan Smith, which gave Fremont its first lead, 34-32.

Perry is King’s best interior defender, but he picked up three fouls in the opening quarter and sat out the entire second quarter. The other ‘big men’ for the Wolves need to play a little better.

Eric Wise, who averages 20.3 points, has eight, and Kawhi Leonard, who averages 17.2, has six -- two three-pointers in the opening 2 1/2 minutes.

At least J.J. Campbell is playing well. Campbell averages 7.5 points, but he already has a team-high 10.

Should be an interesting second half.
