No one thought the Knight boys’ basketball team would make much of an impact during postseason play. But low and behold, the Hawks did, upsetting several opponents en route to an appearance in the Southern Section Division II-A title game and a cameo in the Southern California Regional playoffs.

The improbable run, however, came to an end Monday, courtesy of Dominguez. The second-seeded Dons looked every bit the part, defeating the over-matched Hawks, 83-59, to move onto Tuesday’s Division I quarterfinals against San Diego. Knight has nothing to be ashamed of, though.

‘By most accounts, our season should have been over a long time ago,’’ Hawks Coach Tom Hegre said. ‘We just ran into a better team tonight. We gave it everything we had for 32 minutes, but our best 32 minutes against a team like Dominguez isn’t good enough. They’re a powerhouse, no doubt about it. We played with pride. We’ve played with pride all season.’’
