It’s the quarterfinals of the Division I Southern California Regionals, and top-seeded Taft is running and gunning and sending a clear message to Oceanside El Camino that no upset is going to take place in Woodland Hills tonight.

El Camino is trying to match up with a man-to-man defense, but Taft keeps scoring at will. So far in the postseason, no one has figured out how to slow down point guard Larry Drew Jr. Until that happens, Taft is unbeatable. It’s Taft leading, 18-12, after the first quarter, and only a matter of time before the Toreadors turn this game into a rout.

El Camino certainly deserves to be known as the road warriors. The team traveled more than 300 miles and six hours by bus for Monday’s game against Clovis East, stayed overnight in Fresno and made a 3 1/2-hour drive to Woodland Hills on Tuesday. By the time the Wildcats return Tuesday night, they will have gone more than 650 miles by bus.

UCLA-bound wide receiver Nelson Rosario starts for El Camino. Another future Bruin football player, tight end Cory Harkey, started for Chino Hills Monday against Taft.
