Boys’ soccer: Arlington makes a mess out of Lindsay

Thanks to the Porterville Recorder, we’ve got news on Lindsay.

Not the Lindsay (pictured) we’re used to reading about, but highlights of Arlington’s 5-1 victory over the Lindsay boys’ soccer team in a Southern California Regional Division II quarterfinal Tuesday afternoon.

To say there was nothing else going on in Tulare County yesterday is a bit of a stretch, however. Somebody also sprayed graffiti on a building in Strathmore and a crook stole $1,430 worth of items from a car in Porterville.

Man, and they say Los Angeles is a tough place to live.

Back to the game. According to Alex K.W. Schultz, it unfolded like this: Michael Chavez scored two goals in the first 12 minutes and Erick Perez had another, providing the Lions a 3-0 cushion. Right about then, Lindsay had a better chance of bouncing back from the deep freeze of 1990 than a three-goal deficit.

Lindsay had plenty of excuses, however. According to its coach, his two best players weren’t playing at 100% because of injuries. Sitting on a bus for 250 miles probably didn’t help Arlington much either, but the Lions are moving on to the semifinals, where they will visit San Diego Cathedral on Thursday for a 5 p.m. start.
