Like Gibson, Long Beach Wilson’s Hicks can intimidate

There’s an ancient baseball axiom: ‘The art of pitching is intimidation.’ You can add those words to the biography of Bob Gibson. Or Nolan Ryan. Or Don Drysdale.

Or Aaron Hicks -- the hitting-pitching sensation for the Long Beach Wilson Bruins.

Here’s the thing about Hicks. He intimidates on the mound and at the dish. He can fire 93-mph rockets and hit 400-foot bombs. Through three games, his ERA is nil and he’s struck out five batters in four innings. He’s hitting .500 with six RBIs and a homer.

So, you can see the kid’s an all-around intimidator. In fact, his whole team is -- the Bruins (2-1) are ranked No. 2 in the nation by Rivals.com.
