Mater Dei’s lead shrinks in third quarter of Division II regional

The Fresno Edison boys’ basketball team pulled within four points early in the third quarter, but the Monarchs scored six straight points to end the threat and lead, 52-40, heading into the final quarter.

The Tigers have basically played Mater Dei even since the Monarchs jumped to a 14-2 in the first six minutes.

If Mater Dei’s short bench is going to give it problems, it will be in these final eight minutes.

David Wear has 15 points to lead Mater Dei and Andy Brown has 10.

Greg Smith has 16 points to lead Edison and Josh Maroney has 11.
