Let’s talk three-peat.

It’s what the Long Beach Poly girls’ basketball team can attempt if they beat Narbonne in the next hour or so. The ‘rabbits will then head to Sacramento for a three-peat of the state title.

By the way, should I be scribbling up a check to NBA coach Pat Riley for using the sports term? No, Riley trademarked ‘three-peat’ only for commercial use. So journalists -- and bloggers galore -- can use it without any financial repercussion. Yippee!

But all this three-peat chatter should be credited to former Laker Byron Scott. According to Riley himself, it was Scott who coined the term in reference to the team’s goal for the 1988 season.
