Mission League baseball title race is a tough call

Even though Tuesday afternoon’s Mission League opener between Notre Dame and St. Francis was a battle between two unbeaten teams coming off tournament title-game victories, it’s still hard to say if these guys are contenders for the league title.
In fact, Notre Dame Coach Tom Dill and St. Francis Coach Brian Esquival pretty much responded in the same way when I asked them about their team’s title chances. Both decided to take the ‘wait and see’ approach.
But I’m not going to be so cautious. I still think Crespi is the favorite for the league title, but after the Celts, I’m not sure what the Mission League’s pecking order will be. By my calculations, Alemany, Notre Dame, St. Francis and Harvard-Westlake all have a legitimate chance at finishing second.
