Aaron Brooks. It’s quite possibly the most popular name in sports.

Maybe because it brings to mind Hank Aaron and Brooks Robinson, who built their Hall of Fame baseball careers during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Or, maybe, it’s former NFL quarterback Aaron Brooks, who put together a few good years in New Orleans earlier this decade, but was mainly known for his wobbly chuck-n-duck interceptions.

Or, maybe, just maybe, it’s Houston Rockets rookie guard Aaron Brooks, who is averaging 5.2 points a game heading into Thursday’s first-round playoff game against the Utah Jazz.

Well, get ready to hear about another Aaron Brooks. He’s a senior pitcher/third baseman for Cajon High in San Bernardino, and he’s stringing together a great year. Brooks is hitting .500 this season, with 30 hits in 60 at-bats, and has seven home runs and 31 RBIs. On the bump, he’s 5-1 with a 1.39 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.

He’s a big reason the Cowboys are 17-3, including 9-1 in the San Andreas League, and he’s scheduled to start on the mound Thursday at Arroyo Valley. I think he’s well on his way to making a name for himself.
