It looks as if Lancaster‘s Shawna Wright is slugging her way to an inevitable state home run record.

Wright hit a trio of home runs, including a grand slam, in the Eagles’ 11-3 pounding of Quartz Hill on Tuesday. In the process, she upped her career total to 35 dingers -- the fourth-best mark in state history.

And it looks highly likely she’ll break the state record since she’s got a year on San Pedro’s Perelini Koria -- the current all-time leader -- who’s sitting on 40 as of this morning. Wright has averaged close to 12 home runs a season, so unless Koria or Oceanside senior Trina Harrison (who has 37) really step up production in the next few weeks, the record could be Wright’s next spring.

Of course, the only reason why I say ‘could’ is because she will continue to have some company in her home run pursuit. Crescenta Valley junior Baillie Kirker has 32 homers.
