I’m not much for home run hitting contests, but the one before the San Fernando Valley all-star game on Tuesday sounded like a good one.

Simi Valley’s Sam Fischer beat Thousand Oaks’ Marla Mathews in the finals, 4-3, by hitting two homers in her final four four swings.

But it sounded like there was some real drama that took place in the semifinals, woo.

Fischer and Valencia’s Jessica Spigner -- named that day as the Gatorade state player of the year -- were tied at 3-3 after the round, so had to go to a tie-breaker -- and Fischer beat Spigner, 4-2.

After winning the home run competition, the Loyola Marymount-bound outfielder hit a two-run homer in the game to help the West score a 6-4 victory over the East.
