Mike Stanton, the former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame three-sport standout, has 38 home runs for Class A Greensboro. He hit two more Sunday and is within two of the South Atlantic League record.

Stanton, a second-round draft pick of the Florida Marlins last year who turned down the chance to attend USC, is batting .291 with 94 RBIs. He has struck out 153 times in 467 at-bats, something he’ll need to work on. But his power has been extraordinary.

Also doing well at Greensboro is former Chatsworth third baseman Matt Dominguez, who’s batting .300 with 18 home runs. Former Chatsworth outfielder Bryan Petersen led the team in hitting with a .301 average until being promoted.
