What’s more impressive than beating the top-ranked team in the country?
Doing it twice.
That’s exactly what the Santa Margarita girls’ volleyball team did recently. The Lady Eagles on Saturday defeated La Costa Canyon, ranked No. 1 in the ESPN Rise Fab 50 national poll, two games to one in the championship of the Redondo Power Classic.
Santa Margarita had toppled then-No. 1 Lakewood, two games to none, on Sept. 20 at the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas.
The Lady Eagles also ended Orange Lutheran’s 21-match winning streak on Oct. 14 at a time when the Lancers were the top-ranked team in Orange County and ranked No. 13 nationally.
