Former Taft Coach Troy Starr has La Mesa Helix in the semifinals of the San Diego Division II playoffs with a 9-1-1 record. Helix rushed for more than 500 yards in a 54-10 quarterfinal victory Friday night over Grossmont.
‘I love it,’ Starr said of his new position. Starr was the coach of Taft until he resigned to become director of football operations at Florida. He decided to return to coaching this season at Helix.
He said he’s proud of his former team reaching the City Championship Division semifinals. Taft Coach Matt Kerstetter is a former Starr assistant.
