San Fernando Coach Tom Hernandez is still trying to take a breather after his team’s heart-stopping 49-43 triple-overtime victory over Sun Valley Poly last week.
To say the pressure was on would be an understatement.
In the first overtime, Poly blocked a San Fernando conversion kick and had the chance to win after scoring a touchdown. All the Parrots had to do was make the extra point. But the Tigers blocked it.
In the second overtime, Poly went up by two points after making a two-point conversion following a touchdown. San Fernando, however, answered with its own two-point conversion.
Finally, in the third overtime, San Fernando stopped Poly and won it with a touchdown.
‘The crowd went crazy,’ Hernandez said of the overtime periods.
San Fernando is 2-0 going into another nonleague game against Wilmington Banning. The Tigers are heavy favorites to win the Valley Mission League title.
