I know everyone looks forward to the week when the championship games are played, but this coming week in high school football is amazing in terms of the quality matchups on Friday night.

Let’s start with Los Angeles Dorsey at Los Angeles Crenshaw for the Coliseum League championship. Then there’s Los Angeles Roosevelt versus Los Angeles Garfield in the East L.A. Classic at East L.A. College that attracts 25,000. Carson plays at Harbor City Narbonne for the Marine League title.

In the Southern Section, Fountain Valley will play Huntington Beach Edison in the battle of the unbeaten teams for the Sunset League title at Cal State Fullerton. Orange Lutheran plays Anaheim Servite at Cerritos College for the Trinity League title.

St. Francis plays at Mission Hills Alemany for the Mission League title. Rancho Cucamonga is at Upland in a huge Baseline League game. Unbeaten La Puente Bishop Amat is at Encino Crespi in the Serra League, which also features Los Angeles Loyola at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a game that will be televised by Prime Ticket.

And of course, in the Inland Empire, it doesn’t get much better than Norco at Corona Centennial.

All these games figure to be filled to capacity. It’s stunning how good the football has been and the response of students and adults because this isn’t Texas, but Southern California is loving its high school football these days.
