Football: San Clemente completes 2010 schedule

San Clemente put the finishing touches on a 2010 schedule that begins in paradise with a trip to Maui to play Baldwin before the Tritons return to the mainland and get a possible reality check against the likes of La Costa Canyon, Mater Dei and Newport Harbor.

La Costa Canyon went 22-3 the last two seasons and won a San Diego Section title in 2008. Mater Dei is a perennial power and Newport Harbor is a program on the rise in the Sunset League. San Clemente’s nonleague schedule also includes Fountain Valley and Villa Park.

San Clemente opens South Coast League play against Trabuco Hills at home and plays Mission Viejo at home in Week 8. The Tritons return 12 starters from last year’s team that went 6-5. The junior varsity team compiled an 8-2 record and the freshman team went 8-1-1.
