Baseball: Paez strikes out 13 for Bishop Amat

Paul Paez improved to 5-0 with a 13-strikeout performance to help La Puente Bishop Amat defeat St. Paul, 7-0, on Wednesday. Jay Anderson had a home run and Rio Ruiz went three for three. Bishop Amat improved to 11-1.
In the Trinity League, Bryan Garza hit a three-run home run to lift Anaheim Servite past JSerra, 5-2. Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated St. Bosco, 3-2, behind pitcher Cory Hahn.
In the Marmonte League, Simi Valley Royal improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in league with a 9-1 victory over Agoura. Cody Buckel (5-0) struck out nine and hit a home run. Justin Greco went four for four. Thousand Oaks defeated Simi Valley, 3-2, despite the fourth home run by sophomore Cody Ramer. Newbury Park defeated Westlake, 7-6.
In the Foothill League, Valencia (7-2, 4-0) got a two-run home run from Quincy Quintero and a solo home run from Shane Zeile to defeat Newhall Hart, 8-2. Quintero also threw two innings of scoreless relief. Valencia West Ranch defeated Golden Valley, 15-3. Chris Caldwell hit two home runs and Josh Heinz hit his fifth home run and finished with six RBIs.
Reseda Cleveland lost to Henderson (Nev.) Coronado, 11-9. George Vosahlo and Dylan Hernandez had three hits each for Cleveland, which scored 49 runs in four games and went 2-2 in Las Vegas. Birmingham lost to Palo Verde, 22-9.
In Arizona, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake defeated Fort Collins (Colo.) Rocky Mountain, 11-10. Sam Horn had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.
In San Diego, Woodland Hills Taft dropped its second consecutive game, losing to Fallbrook, 16-11.
