Locals in running for USA Surf Team

Surfing America has selected 21 surfers under 18 years old to train for the chance to be one of the 12 team members for the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

The under 18 boys’ selections are Kolohe Andino, San Clemente; Evan Geiselman, New Smyrna Beach; Conner Coffin, Santa Barbara; Luke Davis, Capistrano Beach; Jake Halstead, La Jolla; Trevor Thornton, San Clemente; Derek Peters, Huntington Beach.

The under 16 boys are Parker Coffin, Santa Barbara; Colin Moran, Costa Mesa; Taylor Clark, Encinitas; Jacob Davis, Capistrano Beach; Skip McCullough, La Jolla; Kanoa Igarashi, Huntington Beach; Jake Marshall, Encinitas.

The under 18 girls are Lakey Peterson, Santa Barbara; Quincy Davis, Montauk, N.Y.; Nikki Viesins, Indialantic, Fla.; Jasset Umbel, Melbourne Beach, Fla.; Kulia Doherty, San Clemente; Catherine Clark, Ventura; Frankie Harrer, Malibu.
