On Wednesday, Encino Crespi junior basketball player Michael Avery was given his appeal hearing with a CIF state appeal panel in his bid to gain a hardship waiver this season after transferring from Montverde Academy in Florida. Southern Section Commissioner Jim Staunton denied the waiver.

One of his attorneys is Kevin Boyle, who helped Todd Hunt of Santa Ana Mater Dei gain his eligibility in an appeal. If Avery wins his appeal, Boyle might need to add secretaries to answer all the phone calls from parents who will want to use him in their appeals.
