Whatever Encino Crespi is paying Jon Mack _ and it’s big bucks _ he certainly has earned his salary this season, getting the Celts into the Pac-5 Division quarterfinals with a 28-14 win over Los Alamitos.

Kenny Stenhouse passed for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Devin Lucien caught two more TD passes, giving him 16 on the season, including a 96-yard TD that clinched the victory.

Most impressive is that the defense rose up and didn’t allow very many big plays.

Crespi will now likely get a quarterfinal matchup against its former coach, Troy Thomas, if Anaheim Servite wins as expected on Friday.

Crespi showed great discipline on both sides of the ball. Charles Washington continues to be a standout on defense, and Terrence Williams is developing into a powerful running back.

And Mack is one heck of a coach. The Celts have knocked off three solid teams this season in Clovis West, Vista Murrieta and Los Alamitos. That’s big progress.

Los Alamitos will be upset in that it thought a catch in the end zone by Richard Turner in the fourth quarter that could have tied the game was a touchdown. Instead, the official ruled he was out of bounds. Here’s a photo from the Register. You decide.
