Boys’ basketball: Palisades claims second place in Western League

Donovan Johnson scored 19 points to help Palisades (16-12, 9-3) finish in second place behind Westchester in the Western League with a 75-65 victory over L.A. University. David Nwaba scored 29 points for University (22-8, 7-4).

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real helped its City Section Division II playoff seeding with a 58-57 overtime victory over Reseda Cleveland. Maleke Haynes made a free throw with 17 seconds left. Temjae Singleton’s basket at the buzzer sent it into overtime for El Camino Real. Haynes and fellow freshman Julian Richardson each scored 20 points.

Woodland Hills Taft finished an unbeaten West Valley League play with an 85-55 victory over Granada Hills. Stephen Maxwell scored 11 points and Kevin Johnson 10.

In the Northern League, Marshall won the championship with a 75-46 victory over L.A. Wilson. In the Valley Mission League, Granada Hills Kennedy finished 12-0 and has won 15 consecutive games after a 62-45 victory over San Fernando.

In the Coliseum League, Manual Arts, under first-year Coach Dwayne Polee, upset Fremont, 51-49, to win its second league game. Fremont was without three injured starters.

In the East Valley League, Van Nuys Grant completed its first unbeaten league season since 1991 with a 58-35 win over Sun Valley Poly. Gor Plavchyan had 20 points and 18 rebounds for the Lancers (17-10, 12-0).
