The best thing about playing freshmen at the start of the season is that by the end, they’re no longer playing like freshmen.
And now opponents of Woodland Hills El Camino Real (15-11) need to be concerned, because the Conquistadores, seeded No. 3 in City Section Division II, could be ready to make a title run.
Freshmen Maleke Haynes and Julian Richardson are starting to become major contributors. El Camino Real knocked off every school in the West Valley League in the second half of league play except champion Woodland Hills Taft.
The young players are growing up fast, and that means beware of the Conquistadores in the playoffs.
