When it comes to perseverance, former Woodland Hills El Camino Real outfielder Blake Gailen has plenty.

Undrafted when his eligibility was finished at UNLV in 2007, Gailen has kept playing professional baseball, and now the Angels have purchased his contract after he was leading the American Assn. of the Independent League with a .406 batting average.

Gailen, 26, has been sent to Double-A Arkansas in the Texas League.
