Football: Mission Viejo fumbles chance at lead

Mission Viejo was poised to take the lead going into halftime, marching to the 1-yard line, but Austin Reuland fumbled behind the line of scrimmage and Santa Margarita recovered at its own 2.

Johnny Stanton’s quarterback keeper gained five yards on the next play and the Eagles let the remaining seconds tick off the clock to preserve a 7-7 tie.

Stanton has completed five of 15 passes for 54 yards. Mission Viejo quarterback Alex Bridgford has completed three of six passes for 84 yards.

Santa Margarita will get the ball first in the second half.
