Boys’ basketball: El Camino Real relies on its sophomores

Sophomore Kelton Conway contributed seven points in the final two minutes, and sophomore Julian Richardson finished with 21 points to propel Woodland HIlls El Camino Real (4-1) past Rialto Eisenhower, 67-65, in an opening game of the Santa Monica tournament.

Marvelle Harris had 44 points for Eisenhower. El Camino Real will face Los Angeles Loyola (5-0) on Thursday at 8 p.m. Loyola defeated East Bakersfield, 75-36, with all 15 of its players scoring.

In other Santa Monica tournament games, Mission Hills Alemany opened with an 86-71 victory over Birmingham. Marqueze Coleman scored 21 points, Bear Henderson had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Max Guercy added 15 points.

Palisades defeated Corona Centennial, 59-39. Brenden Otero scored 17 points and Tyler Duke 14. The Dolphins played without All-City guard Donovan Johnson, who injured his back last week and will be sidelined another week.

In the Moorpark tournament, Kennedy Edwards had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Johnathan Bell added 15 points in Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s 90-20 win over Sun Valley. Royal (4-1) defeated Sylmar, 83-63. Max McCoy led the way with 13 points. Royal faces Oaks Christian on Thursday.

Brentwood (6-0) defeated Kilpatrick, 60-45, with Tra Holder scoring 28 points and Leland King 21.

In the Canyon tournament, Joseph Prince scored 32 points in Highland’s 73-57 win over Paraclete. Eastside defeated Panorama, 55-53. Byron Maddox had 18 points. Valencia defeated Quartz Hill, 86-70, with Zach Davis scoring 31 points and Troy Hammel 25 points. Canyon defeated Eagle Rock, 66-28.
