Jordie Hannel, the starting center for Westlake’s unbeaten football team who has a 4.7 grade-point average and never received a grade other than A in high school, had a day to cherish on Friday. He had been waiting for weeks to find out if he was going to be accepted into Stanford.

Then he found out by email that Stanford had accepted him. In the evening, he helped Westlake win the Northern Division championship with a 49-42 win over Oaks Christian.

‘I got to say it was the best day of my life,’ Hannel said. ‘What are the odds of winning the biggest game of my life on the same day I got into my dream school?’
