Track & Field: Great Oak, Poly earn Mt. SAC medals

After 22 events, Temecula Great Oak was the boys sweepstakes winner at the 54th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, totaling 81 points to finish first ahead of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (67), Oxnard Rio Mesa (64) and Los Angeles Loyola (50).
Long Beach Poly dominated the girls competition, racking up 118 points to lap second-place Great Oak (55) and third-place Gardena Serra (46).
In one of the final races of the meet, Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley, who turned in the nation’s fastest time girls 3200 time this year at the Arcadia Invitational, ran the anchor leg in Saturday’s Invitational distance medley and took the lead on the final lap to pace the Pioneers’ victory in 11:59.68.
Rio Mesa won the boys Invitational 4x400 relay in 3:16.42 and the 4x200 relay in 1:26.34. Chris Hawkins of Rancho Cucamonga won the boys Invitational 110 hurdles in 14.31, one hundredth of a second ahead of Great Oak’s Duane Solomon.
