The Panthers, fifth-place finishers in the Big VIII League, have advanced to the Division 1 final on Friday night at Dodger Stadium after a 2-1 semifinal victory over West Ranch on Tuesday at Blair Field. It was their fifth consecutive upset victory. They’ve eliminated the Pacific View, Marmonte and Foothill League champions.
Pitcher Daniel Pena made his third playoff start and won this third playoff game. An RBI single by Matt Majher, hitting .188, in the fifth inning, broke a 1-1 tie.
Freshman John Gonzalez had two hits for Corona (19-14).
