Football: Crespi takes 17-3 halftime lead over Salpointe

In the first high school football game of the season, Encino Crespi has a 17-3 halftime lead over Salpointe Catholic in Tucson, Ariz.

Sophomore running back Okalani Langi broke a 3-3 tie by scoring on a 12-yard screen pass from quarterback Cody Cordell.

Crespi’s defense has been impressive, stopping Salpointe on the opening drive on fourth-and-goal from the one. Tyler Foreman has an interception for the Celts. Patrick Cassley made a 31-yard field goal.

Crespi opened a 17-3 lead in the second quarter after JB Blackwell made a one-handed catch for a 23-yard TD reception.

Cordell has completed nine of 12 passes for 130 yards with one interception. Langi has rushed for 47 yards in nine carries. Salpointe lost its starting quarterback to injury but he has returned for the start of the second half.
